Overview
Here’s an overview of the 6-day Mount Kenya climbing expedition using the Sirimon ascent and Naro Moru descent routes:
This route combination is a popular choice for trekkers on Mount Kenya, offering a good balance of scenic beauty, a more gradual ascent for better acclimatization, and a direct descent.
Sirimon Route (Ascent): The Sirimon route is generally considered the easiest and most gradual ascent route on Mount Kenya. It starts on the drier northwestern side of the mountain, passing through impressive Yellowwood forests in its lower reaches, followed by moorland and alpine zones. This route offers excellent opportunities for acclimatization due to its gentle gradient and provides spectacular views of the main peaks.
Naro Moru Route (Descent): The Naro Moru route is the most direct and often the fastest descent route. It takes you down the western side of the mountain, through the infamous “Vertical Bog” (which can be very muddy) and dense rainforest. While the ascent on Naro Moru can be quite steep, the descent allows for a quicker exit from the mountain.
