Overview
This 6-day trek offers a comprehensive and varied experience of Mount Kenya, combining the directness of the Naro Moru route for the ascent with the breathtaking beauty of the Chogoria route for the descent. It’s designed to provide good acclimatization while showcasing the diverse ecosystems and stunning landscapes of the mountain.
Key Highlights of the Route:
- Naro Moru Route (Ascent): Often considered the most direct and fastest route to Point Lenana. It passes through dense rainforest and the infamous “Vertical Bog” (which can be very muddy, especially in wet seasons), leading up to the moorland and alpine zones. While less scenic than Chogoria on the ascent, its directness helps with reaching higher camps efficiently.
- Chogoria Route (Descent): Widely regarded as the most picturesque and dramatic route on Mount Kenya. The descent via Chogoria offers spectacular views of features like the Gorges Valley, Nithi Falls, Lake Michaelson, Lake Ellis, and the Giant Billiard Table. It’s a longer, more gradual descent that allows for appreciation of the unique Afro-alpine flora and stunning geological formations.
